Writtle currently lies within the Parliamentary Constituency of West Chelmsford. However, following the review by the independent Boundary Commission in 2005, the Division will become part of the Parliamentary Constituency of Saffron Walden - but only when the next general election is called.

The current MP is Simon Burns, but at the next general election we will be voting in the Saffron Walden constituency, where the current MP Sir Alan Haselhurst will be seeking re-election.

Writtle is represented in the European Parliament by one of the seven MEPs representing the East of England. Currently this is Geoffrey Van Orden. He was re-elected in the European elections held on 4th June 2009.
